<aside> 💡 Always open your projects somewhere comfy before you open them on site. This will prevent a lot of frustration by helping you anticipate how you want to set up and render. It will let you re-send your model quickly if you want to change something. It will—and this is important—ensure that you have content available to you on your device before you go on site a look like bobo the fool.

Your first site visit depends a bit on what device you’re using. We’re assuming that if you’re reading this, you’re the person in charge of setting up on-site. If someone else is setting up—lucky you, just show up.

Pre-requisites:

Rules:

Don’t expect to show off to the boss or your customer on your first rodeo.

Read more in How to have an AR meeting.

Choice of Site & time of day:

Factors to consider, some are device-specific:

Hololens 2 renders badly (pale, washed out) outdoors in bright light. Low morning sun can interfere with Hololens 2 sensors.

Sun can interfere with Magic Leap 2 controller sensors, position your body between sun and selection.

Heat can lead to all devices crashing.

Cold can lead to iOS devices crashing. Headmounted does okay in the cold, because of you, its host.

Water and electronics aren’t great together. Prepare against rain.

You may want to go toward the end of a construction work day like 3PM when it’s less busy on site.

Site Setup: Alignment

To set up a site is to align the hologram world with the real world. You’ll match a known coordinate with an Argyle Hologram.

If you go to a never-before seen by your device location, you’ll need to set up again. If you would like to expedite—share an Argyle QR code. They’re cross-platform.

AR Meetings - Preparing to show-off your Augmented Site

Best recommendation, if you’re hosting a meeting is to

Choose a site that is covered. Site visits with outside visitors go best when you can have control of lighting conditions and protection from heat or wet weather.

Use a variety of devices. Handheld AR gathers them in, but Headmounted hits different.
